[lang=en]Meenakshi Madhukar had been worried about her skin disorders for the past few months. Wrinkles, pigmentation and other aging symptoms started appearing on her skin at an age of 35. It was then she decided to go for a skin ayurvedic treatment.
``I didn’t know till then that I belong to the vata skin type,’’ says Meenakshi. ``The Ayurvedic practitioner told me that according to Ayurveda, there are various skin types found in human beings and the classification is based on the humours/doshas in the body,’’ she adds.
The entire characteristics that the practitioner described for the vata skin type suited well with Meenakshi’s skin. ``It has always been dry and cool to touch. The practitioner told me the appearance of aging symptoms on my skin is due to an imbalance in vata humour. He prescribed me a diet to bring it back to normal,’’ she adds.
Apart from vata, there are various other skin types which include pitta and kapha. The combination of any two of the doshas will also lead to the creation of other skin types. Hence, Ayurvedic treatments are based on the skin type and they differ from individual to individual.
An Ayurvedic practitioner, while treating skin diseases, takes into account not only the skin type, but the environmental factors too. Skin, being the outermost covering of the body, can be affected easily by the changes in climate. Exposure to extreme weather, dust, impurity of water etc too can affect the skin adversely.[/lang]
