What do you think about education in Indonesia?

i dont like formal education in school

i believe some child will better if he/she get choise what he/she need, format education or from street

yeah, but can we get a complete knowledge just from street? who will teach him/her?

each from us have ability to learn and survive

street is the best teacher for some people like me

i grown up from street but beside i have formal education too
i believe with that at least i more ready to life in society

i dont get that when i school in formal school

how about you :)

yeah, it is just for society, right?
but, let's think about schools new a day, everyone is talking about the system of education that made all of the parents in Indonesia, Jakarta especially (maybe) must pay more and more fee for their children..

to get a good job, we must graduated minimally at high school, and that is no high school at street..
isn't it?

Hi you know so many people now make ton of dollar even they didn't have formal education. And you can see Bill Gate no the second riches man in the world, he drop out from his collage. And I know man whom he never graduated from elementary school make bullion of dollar!! he he

HI.......i think education in indonesia si getting better, some how we can see now the teacher has lost their dignity. It is not same anymore, in the past time people very respect with guru

Hmm..how i told you about education in indonesia? Really, many people or student in indonesia who get the great achievement, that indicated many people in indonesia not too bad or not too stupid but how the government dirrected and raised them. Does our government have much fund for allocation of education in our country?

i think the government nowadays give us a promise to
make a better Education in indonesia.

i dont know it is true or not? because i never thinking
about the problem, i always thinking about the director of all
the creature in this world its GOD.....

that can make a change (and better of course) even the problem get worse!

I think education in Indonesia is getting more commercialize. Cost of education so expensive. about the quality ? hmm...still far from great.

Plizz give me correction if there a mistake.

ahaa! I agree with ya!! :)(

Dunno actually what to say regarding Education in Indonesia. For me it was not too bad. I wasn't graduated from a famous and favorite school while back in Indonesia. To be frankly, I went to elementary and finishing my high school in a small village somewhere in Bali. It does lack of the facilities what may most schools in big city has. But hey, we gotta be real, to be fair our education not as bad as we though. I have been visiting several country, it also not as merry as what we have back in Indonesia. But what most important thing in education is if we are really willing to change the way we act and think? Our attitude matters. Let say, government able to give/provide us cheap and good school. Preferably free, but if we as pupils didn't want to use wisely, than there is no meaning anymore. I understand that education(School?) is not cheap, but many public schools belong to government are quite affordable. There is not such cheap or expensive as black and white.
In Europe especially in the UK, also can be expensive. I still believe in progress of what Indonesian will become.
Good bless Indonesia et all

What is the purpose of education? Is it the only choice in life to reach success? What is success anyway? Have a career in a big famous corporation or become the business owner of some big entreprise or simply enough to fulfill your basic necessity such as food (3 times a day), clothes (certainly not designer clothes) & house? Some people may not be rich, may not highly educated, may not have the dream career, but they are satisfied with their life. Isn't that what is all about? To be satisfied for who you are, for what you do & have self respect & love for yourself...(& others as well).

Some people already present some facts that higher education may be important, but it is not everything! The most important thing is ability to work hard, learn hard & to try hard. No matter where you came from, how high your education is, if you have no self respect & no determination to work, learn & try hard, no great things will happen to you. Adam Malik, our former vice president was a person who learn by reading. He did not have high education. But his determination to learn was incredible & he reached the highest possible career in his life (& our life too perhaps).

Anyway, it's true though, education in Indonesia is not cheap. The public school fee may be free, but parents still have to pay for expensive sets of books, uniforms, etc...etc... The most impacted by this situation is the poor. We middle class still have choices. Should we go to public or private school? But the reality getting more dimp for higher education level. Nowadays universities are exessively expensive! Even for middle class, it will be a struggle to put their children there!

The reason why indonesian education is expensive, it is due to corruption in all area of Depdiknas & the school management itself...

I Agreed with you Urhee, some of us somehow put education as a higher achievement and hopefuly will change their life.(becoming richer or famous). It is not wrong I believe, but we need to adjust ourself again to understand what actualy education is for? The level of satisfaction can be vary, and it is not suposed to be generalise. I by meant love to have a carier, love to make myself meaningful in order to help other people to not through my experinece back in my old time. with the money I earn, I establish CASH (children After ScHool) is free non-formal education center where they can learn and able to explore their interest and capability.

Once again, I agreed (maybe we need more people like you in Indonesia )
Your attitude toward your achievment, and I always believe in that. Willingness and open in any suggestions can help. Work/Learn Hard(maybe not always literary "hard")

What I don't like nowadays about school in Indonesia is, by making all of the uniform, bag and book until shoes provide by school. provide mean parents have to pay for that. The reason why indonesian education is expensive, it is due to corruption in all area of Depdiknas & the school management itself...

Corruption? Mmmmmmmm

Corruption? Mmmmmmmm

Yup, corruption through school board/system! There's somekind of school mafia nowadays. The publisher of certain text books are making business relation with teachers/headmaster. They giving away some kind of bonus/certain percentage for book selling for the teachers/headmaster. That way, the teacher force all parents to buy the textbook through school. Some even said, the book can be found in the book store for cheaper price. But if the parents do not buy the book through school, the teachers/headmaster will put a hard time for the parents anyway they can. For example put an unfriendly face during parents meeting with the teacher. That is enough to make the parents afraid for the fate of their child under the teacher's care...

And what's worse, every year the publisher change the text book. So a family who have 2 children for example, the older child already pass the grade and the younger child actually can borrow the used book from the older child. However the publisher simply change for example on certain page, a name of Husin become Udin. So when the younger child read the page outloud during certain excercise, the teacher will mock the poor child by screaming out loud,"Oh... you use the old version of the book ya!" making the younger child ashamed & the next year, this will force the parents to buy a new set of book for the younger child. Because if they do not do that, the younger child will be stressed out by the mockery of the cruel teacher!

During SBY government, there's a certain subsidized money (Dana BOSS) for public school for the sake of the students. The government provide the money for good reason. For example: to repair school building or to provide certain facility to boost the student's achievement (for example buy computer/books), etc. But what happened? There are headmasters who bought AC for their office, or buy new furniture. And the Depdiknas/government only commented, "well the power/authority to make that money useful is granted to the school! There's nothing the government can do about it!"

And then there's a rumour about corruption during National Examination. Many educational expert already give their argument to stop this exam. However Depdiknas persisted. I think the argument is correct, because not all area in Indonesia can be uniform in standarding their level of education. For example, the children in Papua with their lack of facility & lack of good teachers availability, receive a different standard of education than the children in Jakarta! Or the children in Aceh/Poso, whose area was like a war zone, cannot be standardize as the same as a peaceful area like Jogja for example. But the government wont' hear it & force to give the exam. The result is disaster.... Some said is due to corruption in the Department of education....

It's A Pity.... I read about it through online Indonesian newspaper. It is sad to know. I could be true and once again, there must be a reason why things happened. Teachers are not well paid? School board becoming more greedy and into business.

Yep. Judging by the comments in international sites, it seems that average Indonesian students are smarter than average American students.
