Why we must can English?

Ooops...
sorry... i just made my reply to a thread in this forum...
and i made it in Indonesian language....
i hope that all member of this forum could forgive me...
wouldn't happen again....!
thank's

that's my " i'm sorry thread"... (see thread "can we use english only on this category") reply # 5 submitted 02 : 22 : 2008, 14:36.... right after i click post this in this thread.

First of all.... i haven't realized that in this every one should write in english in this forum yet when i wrot that reply....

i had my i'm sorry thread submitted (or maybe it's a reply to a thread..) to explain my above mistake..

gak harus bisa bahasa inggris kok... siapa yang bilang gitu....cuma, karena bahasa inggris sudah terpilih dan diakui menjadi bahasa internasional

I dont understand this statement. Have u ever think to go abroad? I hv no sense on ppl who dont interest to learn English.

the same goes to me....
but I've met several guys who continued their study abroad...and guess what..they can't use english as fluently as you...two of them can't speak english at all..
they use arabic, instead of english..
my grandpa can't speak english either.. he spoke dutch and german...(are you dare to say that he's not open minded and silly for the rest of his life?? i don't.....)

and above all this, abroad doesn't allways means english speaking countries.

i guess.. you just don't got my point, which is IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE ENGLISH....IT COULD BE ANY LANGUAGE.......IT COULD BE JAPANEESE, TAGALOG, ARABIC, MANDARIN, HEBREW, HINDI, GREEK, DEUTCH, DUTCH, NORWAY, SPAIN............ANY..............LANGUANGE (S)...AND NOTHING TO BE ASHAMED OF....

and here i am, on my knees, begging to all of this thread's readers to forgive my sillyness of writing in this forum using Indonesian language which is i felt most fits for the guy who start this thread...never gonna happened again.....BIGGEST SORRY LADS!!!!

I never come to US or UK or other English country......
But I realize english is very important, coz anywhre if u want to apply for study abroad mostly they'll ask for ur TOEFL/IELTS test. Even if u want to get scholarship frm japan, they'll give u english test.
You cant put arab country on list, becoz their system is different (mostly they study abt religion, and u knoe tht Holly Quran is on arabic).
So who can iqnore this language????
Yes i believe our old ppl can speak deutch and germany, even my grandmom.....but she also knoe how to speak english.
I believe alot of ppl can speak 3-5 languages but they also knoe how to speak english.

I have to agree with both of you guys! popoi and cat_girl made the point. Especially when you guys are working for the UN, when English is not required most (depend on the place of mission) then the other official UN languages are most preferable (you may find more info in your text book)

Again I have to repeat which I believe that English used worldwide and again is one of the easies Latin root to learn of. I know you guys are disagree with me. I started to learn French, Germany, Korean and Thailand; either I was not brain enough or just the language is just so difficult to understand, then I give up!

Learn English guys; it is essential, not for work matters but also beyond that. (some folks I met in Bali learned English to get a job)

actually I never have any conversation with somebody that their mother tounge is english, so i learn english just like when i was at school... no matter my english is wrong (payah), just keep trying......

pls help me ...n correct my english if i am getting wrong....

your English just fine. I found out more difficult to write then speaking! But again; keep on trying as you said!

I don't think so.. :Malu:
TQ for your support brada....

you don't have to be shy about it. One thing if you want to improve is do not use short letter. like TQ for thank you.... he..he... wait until you confident enough later future!

Alright brotha?

english is absolutely needed for now on condition...

but one thing that we should also remember that we also need to take our language carefully...

i think it's such rubbish...once i found some of our society try to combine english with indonesian...like dirjen...is that direktur jendral...hell no...what that means??

don't ask why
but, ask how

Good point. Just do it because it is important.

"Why must we (be able to) speak English?"
You cannot follow a modal (must) with another modal (can) because a modal HAS TO be followed by a verb.

Dooo.. serius.. :-D

indeed...
i think be able to speak english is important
at least that's what i thinking of recently...
i just moved to my new office..
where everyone here use english in their everyday conversation..
this is somehow got me frustated.. |
i feel quite ok with passive english (like... write in this thread, chat.. etc)
'though i'm not very good with that grammatical stuff.. :))
but when it come to conversation.. >8o
specially with my boss.. he's an american
so english is his native language..
i find it so troublesome to talk english to one so native...
the dialect.. the way he talk is sounds different
from indonesian who speak english (even one so fluent in english)
but like my teacher when i was on high school said "ulah bisa karna biasa"
you can do it when you feel use to it..

sorry everyone.. i'm not very good in english
>:'(

Why we must can English?

What do you mean with that????

In the word CAN that you used in your sentence above, in America it means Fired, Stopped, Jailed, you know.... sort of "putting something in a CAN (kaleng)"...

Did you mean to say "Why we must able to speak English??"

I guess he meant to say "Why must we be able to speak English?" or -if this is not obligatory- "Why should we be able to speak English?". Dunno exactly what he meant, though.
