Almost all society within the country and abroad can feel the sadness caused by terrorism act to Bali. As a film maker, we feel the need to capture this event in a feature film as the reflection of our complex life and society that becomes more global.
Long Road To Heaven is a feature film (not a documentary) that inspired by the tragedy. It tells the story in 3 different times: October 2002 when the bomb explodes, the trial process (7 months after the explosion) and the time when the terrorists plan the bombing.
But the movie is not focused on visualizing the terrorist characters though it has quiet many scenes on the preparation. It is a movie about humanity that represents the tragedy from various point of view; especially the characters who directly affected from the tragedy.
The film begins with the scene of Hannah Catrelle (Mirrah Foulkes); an American woman who lives in Bali when the explosion take place. Taking her role as a volunteer she meets Hajj Ismail (Joshua Pandelaki) a Moslem where she learns how prejudice can lead into misconception in humanity.
Meanwhile, 7 months later, Liz Thompson (Raelee Hill) an Australian reporter, comes to Bali to cover the trial process. She meets Wayan Diya (Alex Komang) a Balinese taxi driver who lost his brother on the tragedy. In the beginning, Wayan who is very preserved then is able to tell Liz about his sadness. On the other side, Liz learns new values on Balinese spiritualism from Wayan.

There are many valuable lessons can be taken from the tragedy. The movie itself is trying to capture the moment from many different point of views; the terrorists, victim?s family and foreigners. Though categorized as a feature film, LRTH is based on factual research where every sides are presented in balance therefor we hope that the viewers can take side on humanity and peaceful heart.
In this modern life, people are expected to be able to understand and respect the differences among us. Every one is basically looking for peace but along the way there will always be efforts to disrupt the peace. This is the main reason that is captured by the movie so we can reflect our consciousness and humanity of our real life.
